Buxton Gardeners members and guests would like to thank the very learned Mr Jeff Bates for his incredibly well documented and illustrated talk on the local history of some of the finest gardens in and around Derbyshire.
Jeff really knew his history and if time permitted had enough knowledge to last right into next week. Below is a list of some of the gardens Jeff discussed.
Snitterton Hall; Hardwick Hall; Chatsworth; Melbourne Hall (mentioned also the Dower House at Melbourne as a stunning garden a short walk from the Hall, if folks are down that way – check NGS for ‘notified openings’ but Griselda will also open for groups wanting a tour); Locko Park; Wingerworth (never created); Elvaston Castle; Derby Arboretum; Calke Abbey; Haddon Hall; Hopton Hall; Buxton Pavilion Gardens; Belper River Gardens; Renishaw Hall; Lea Rhododendron Gardens; The Burrows (Brailsford); The Green Eckington
Every picture tells a story as shown in the photo taken at the end of Jeff’s talk,….wow, what a fantastic turnout for this event.
Thank you ever so much Jeff, We really do appreciate you coming to share your knowledge with us.
